QUESTIONS ABOUT MANUAL THERAPY

What Is Manual Therapy?

This form of therapy helps to address the tissues that may be overactive, or that have become shortened over a period of time. This overactivity and/or shortening can cause unnecessary stress and tension causing discomfort. This method of therapy is often used in combination with adjustments and other treatment methods to allow for maximal benefit.

How Long Does a Manual Therapy Appointment Take?

Manual Therapy appointments last between 45 and 75 minutes; however, we’ll take as long as we need in order to work through the affected areas.

What are the Different Types of Manual Therapy?

There are three specific types of manual therapy: Soft Tissue & Joint Mobilization, Strain-Counterstrain, and Myofascial Release.

Soft Tissue Mobilization involves the physical therapists using slow and gentle manual techniques or pressure to activate joints or break up and relax tense muscle tissue. The second type of manual therapy, Strain-Counterstratin, is a technique designed to relax the muscles by holding them in a specific position and then gently pulling away from it. The goal of this type of therapy is to restore mobility and decompress injured tissue. If you suffer from sprains, tendonitis, stress injuries, or strains, then you might have a soft tissue injury. Soft tissue injuries happen to muscles, tendons, or ligaments due to a sudden or uncontrolled movement, like rolling over your ankle. The last type of manual therapy is called Myofacial Release. During this type of treatment, Dr. Sealey will use his hands to break up and release bundles of soft tissue resulting in pain relief and increased soft tissue mobility.

Is There a Difference Between Manual Therapy and Physical Therapy?

Manual Therapy is a specialty within the field of Physical Therapy. Because Dr. Sealey is trained in manual therapy and is committed to helping you be pain free, he incorporates this type of treatment at his Omaha based chiropractic facility.

Is Manual Therapy Painful?
